Pyro better than wolf cave dungeons?

I'd say yes

So I moved back to Italy to give wolf cave a try and the item drop has been pathetic compared to Pyro’s lair.  

 

I haven’t got any high value rings or amulets either. If you find an item, it’s usually a pair of boots or something other with little value.

 

My high skill mercenary crew didn't fare too well against Hell Hound either, so I will probably have to shift towards high charisma mercenaries soon.
